On December 4, 2014 Navy Day, a salute to the nation’s seafarers

Cdr Abhishek Kankan

4 December is Indian Navy Day 2014.

To all the fellow sea-farers out there,

“Happy Navy Day ! May all seafarers always have fair weather, following seas, and many a fathom under the keel.”

A salute to those dedicated souls who tirelessly guard our waters and securing our passages through their watches. I feel immensely proud to have been a part of the traditions of one of the most powerful Naval forces on this planet.

According to the Wiki, ” As of 2014, the Indian Navy has a strength of 58,350 personnel and a large operational fleet consisting of two aircraft carriers, one amphibious transport dock, 9 Landing ship tanks, 9 destroyers, 15 frigates, one nuclear-powered attack submarine, 14 conventionally-powered attack submarines, 25 corvettes, 7 mine countermeasure vessels, 47 patrol vessels, 4 fleet tankers and various auxiliary vessels.”

But these remain just pieces of functioning machinery if not for the indomitable spirit of the ones who man them and keep them fighting it.

To you all, my Salute !
